I have had the pleasure of eating here twice. Both times have been outstanding! If you are heading here for breakfast, then I would definitely recommend the huevos rancheros. The shrimp and grits are also wonderful. Crave is the best kept secret in the greater Charleston area. Better than any place I've eaten at downtown.

Tried Crave for brunch the last day at Kiawah - were heading out of town and it's located just outside of Kiawah. To be fair, this I'm reviewing breakfast only, as we didn't get anything off the lunch menu and they've just starting offering dinner a few days a week. Driving up it doesn't look like much, but don't let that fool you. It's a small place, maybe 12 tables inside and 4 or 5 outside, and they run a full service catering business as well, so sometimes they'll close a bit early in order to get to the catering end of things. We went on a Saturday morning around 10:30, so the place was starting to get a little busy but wasn't full. There was only one server working so things were a bit slow, but once the food started coming out it was no problem - seemed like everyone got there pretty much at once which is tough on someone working solo (as well as on the small kitchen they've got here). Coffee was good, although they were serving heavy cream vs. 1/2 and 1/2, but I'm not terribly picky and had some milk for my daughter so we were good. Crave has some unique dishes and mostly cool spins on home cooking/comfort food. We ordered the crave benedict - potato cakes with poached eggs, hollandaise, and spinach - really tasty and a welcome change from the typical offering. My wife's food, however, was great - and simple. Chicken and biscuits - two large pieces of boneless fried chicken with fantastic breading sitting on two biscuits and covered in sausage gravy - heart stopping heaven. If you're looking for someplace on John's Island for breakfast, or if you're staying on Kiawah and want to grab a big breakfast before lounging on the beach all day, check out this place.

Mike is a culinary genius. My husband and I have been going to his restaurant since it opened. We have never had less than an exceptional experience. Mike's food is always extraordinary! The service is always amazing. The tomato pie and mac and cheese are my favorites. We recently had Mike cater our wedding and as usual everything blew us away. Our guests raved about the food all night (still are too). We have since moved to NY but I sincerely wish Mike could open a restaurant here too!

My husband and I stopped into Crave on our way back to Kiawah after a day trip to Savannah. We were interested in getting dinner and saw the sign out front that said, "Ask about dinner." Upon asking, we learned that they weren't yet serving dinner, but owner/chef Mike offered to make us something to take back to our villa (despite being just about closed, which we did not realize at the time). He made us hanger steak with a Gorgonzola cream sauce, pomme frittes and a salad - with instructions on how to reheat it all when we were ready to eat it that evening. It was AMAZING and exactly what we were looking for. We were so impressed that we went back for breakfast twice that week, including the morning that we left to return home to CA. Breakfast was also delicious. My husband had the French toast and perfectly crispy bacon, I had eggs and potatoes. The waitress (Lynn?) remembered that I didn't eat the onions and peppers that were cooked with the potatoes and offered to have them made on our second breakfast trip without them (quite impressive!). Apparently, they also do catering - I wish they were around 3 years ago when we got married on the island - I definitely would have had them cater some of our events! Definitely check this place out - you will be glad that you did!

Have eaten lunch twice here during our two weeks in Seabrook. First time, I had fish and chips which were ok, but wife had salmon over grits which was delicious, plentiful and reasonably priced. Visit number two, we had the crab stackers and shrimp and grits. Both were exceptionally good and, again, we thought prices were very reasonable. We will be back.

This is a gem of a place. The food and menu is top notch, the prices are reasonable, and the place is packed with local foodies. It really is somewhat hampered by being smallish and with limited hours. Nonetheless it's destined to be moving downtown and raising prices as it gets discovered. Its the bargain for seabrook and kiawah by a wide margine. Most everything is local, deserts are to die for, and they will tailor any dish for the customer. A smart addition to the johns island food circuit.

wow - five stars in a shack. best bang for the buck i've seen in the area. what i would expect in a well established restaurant in downtown charleston.

As someone who frequents Seabrook, my family and I are always looking for good places to eat around the island. I had been wanting to try Crave since it opened but I just got the chance this week. I have to say I love this place. I had the southern version of the cheese steak sandwich, my wife had the shimp po boy and we split the green chille mac and cheese. They were also nice enough to make my 4 year old a plate of chicken fingers (which was not on the menu) and sweet potato fries. All of the food was awesome and reasonably priced. I loved my sandwich, it was really good. They smoke the meat over night, and it's got roasted peppers and lots of gooey real cheese all on a fresh made toasted bread. The menu was pretty huge and is sure to have something for everyone. I was also impressed how nice it was inside for a place that I thought was just carry out. Kind of had the vibe of a contemporary side walk cafe. I spoke to one of the owner's and she was also very friendly. I really hope this place does well.

Crave is a new place located in one of the strip malls near the Kiawah/Seabrook entrance ramps. It's marketed as a combination of catering, take out, and eat in and is definitely a nice addition to the area. On my family's visit to Crave, we arrived just in time to pick up some entrees for dinner. We were greeted by a cheery server who welcomed us despite the fact that we showed up three minutes before closing time and encouraged us to take our time in looking around. As it was closing time, the cases were largely empty. There were several tasty-looking desserts and a couple of pasta salads, as well as the two entrees we ended up with: chicken pot pie and eggplant parmigiana. I very much enjoyed the chicken pot pie, which was a nice departure from the traditional recipe. The appearance of the pot pie was one interesting feature: the filling was wrapped in phyllo dough so that it looked a bit like an extra large appetizer. The phyllo dough was nice and crisp and I loved the combination of cheese, broccoli, chicken, and mushrooms that made up the filling. The deepdish eggplant parmigiana (it looked like lasagna) was solidly good; however, we would have liked a bit more cheese and tomato sauce on it.

Well, as you drive to Kiawah or Seabrook Island, you will see Crave on the right side of the road. It doesn't look like much but the looks are deceiving. The food is excellent. There are only about 10 tables, you can see into the kitchen from your table and the menu is written on chalk boards. Everything is very fresh, the prices are reasonable. Try the chocolate bottomed macaroons. Make sure you watch the days and hours they are open for breakfast, lunch or dinner. They now have Sunday brunch.

Amazing breakfast! Breakfast sandwich served on homemade bread and a large portion. The potatoes that were served with the sandwich were the best I have ever had! The service was outstanding! Will be going back for dinner!

Great little gem! Amazing food at a very reasonable price. Our waitress was also amazing! Best service I had in South Carolina during our trip - and that's saying a lot. I would definitely recommend anything with shrimp. That being said - the shrimp tacos and shrimp grits were spectacular.

Excellent food in a low key environment. I had the shrimp & grits with goodness gravy & it was very good! The gravy made it. So flavorful!

So we just ate at this small cozy restaurant for brunch. I had shrimp and grits which I recommend highly and we also had a ham & cheese quiche which was also delicious. The service was so slow but it's hard to be mad at them because they were sweet and personable. However, we did wait a long while every step of the way. One bright spot to the long wait...friggen Dan Marino and his family sat next to us at the communal table! So we talked to them and talked about grits and the weather. Nice family! No photo because we didn't want to be "that" person. When we got up to leave though, Dan shook both our hands and it was very friendly and classy

I ate here several times while at Kiawah. I highly recommend the Shrimp and grits Fried oyster salad Burger Lobster roll Whoopie pie Lava bites

Crave is my favorite restaurant in the Charleston area. It is a small restaurant with quality food. I split the Fried Oyster Salad and the Seared Yellowfin Tuna Special with another person. They both were spectacular. The Oyster Salad had mixed greens, Roma tomatoes, fried oysters, fried onions, and a bacon vinaigrette. The oysters were the best I've ever had and were nice and crispy. The bacon vinaigrette was delicious and really tasted like bacon. The Seared Yellowfin Tuna Special was spectacular and was my favorite seafood from the week when I was on John's Island. The tuna itself I got cooked rare and just melted in my mouth with lots of flavor. It came with yummy stir-fried Asian vegetables and "Forbidden Rice." The vegetables were nicely cooked and had a good flavor. The "Forbidden Rice" was a long black rice and had a good crispiness. If they have the Tuna on the specials when you go to Crave you definitely should get it. Overall, I love Crave. The staff were kind and attentive, the food came out pretty quickly, and the food I just can't stop raving about.

Crave offers one of the most unique menus you'll find and quality to match! On this visit we ordered breakfast and their Crave Benedict added to their growing legend! Homemade Potato pancake, spinach w/ eggs over easy w/ Morley sauce.....sooooo good! And a slice coconut cake for later! But a word of caution...don't judge a book by it's cover!

What a wonderful place. We were in town for a golf tournament and had lunch on friday. We had the hamburger and the fried chicken sandwich...awesome! We loved it so much we went back for lunch on Saturday and brunch on Sunday. The food is great and the people were wonderful. Just a nice relaxing place to eat with great food. Do not miss it.

What a wonderful place. My fiancé and I just did a food tasting for our wedding here. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful and the food was out of this world. They will be doing our wedding in November for certain. We can't wait to come back and enjoy some more phenomenal food. Thanks again

We love this place, casual, friendly Southern service and extraordinary food. I have to eat the Shrimp&Grits every time - their goodness gravy can't be missed, but the entire menu is great for breakfast or lunch (says everyone else I eat with!). This place is just off #KiawahIsland and easy to miss if you are not looking, if you do see it, it won't look like much, but it is a must try. Always call, they can keep odd hours due to their catering service.

The grouper with fingerling potatoes, Kalamata olives, grape tomatoes and fresh asparagus was a nice medley of color, all complimenting the lovely piece of Grouper. Very nice!

We stopped in after a morning of disc golf on Kiawah Island and were not disappointed. The shrimp and grits was the favorite dish with the fried chicken, tacos and fried oyster salad all being delicious! The waiter and cooks were all friendly and made us feel very welcomed. You must try this place!

Where do I start? We stopped by on a whim to browse the menu. I ordered the four cheese grilled cheese, which came with fresh fried potatoes and homemade cole slaw. My wife ordered the buttermilk chicken sandwich. I cannot say enough good things about this place, from the friendly service to the delicious food....this is a MUST TRY. Oh, and don't forget the Creme brûlée, which was incredible.

Excellent staff, varied menu, and cozy atmosphere. Their hours are longer in the summer than yelp lists, the night we went they were nine to nine. Our favorites were the grouper tacos special and the salmon blt.

Last night we dined at Hanks in Charleston and it was awesome. Tonight we dined at Crave and were blown away by the food. We take nothing away from Hanks, but we're both surprised and delighted by our experience at this laid back smaller establishment. Don't pass up an opportunity to try Crave... Best meal of our week long stay on Seabrook!

Delicious, professional, and fun! What more could you ask for in a caterer?!?! Crave provided an exceptional dinner and bar service for my daughter's wedding on Folly Beach. We were all set up to have an outdoor reception when the weather had a different plan. Under Michelle, the Catering Manager's, capable leadership the entire event was moved indoors (well, really the garage). We had guests from over 20 states and each and every one raved about the food. The service was impeccable and the staff incredibly friendly. I am very grateful to Crave for helping make my daughter's day extra special. I would highly recommend Crave. 5-star without a doubt!

Long time Kiwah Man-About-Town, yelper Laura W.'s dad told us about this place. "Go to Crave! It's great!" First, despite me bleary-eyed from hours of driving, I noticed Crave on the right as we homed in on our location on Kiwah Island. Second, Laura's dad is like 9 inches taller than I am, so who am I to argue? Well, we're glad we took his advice. Yeah, it says Crave Catering, but believe me. This is a full-on restaurant. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal(s) here. I forgot what my dining companions ordered, but I liked my braised short rib. And the portion (along with every other dish we spied) was huge. Actually it was almost too big, because by the time I got to the end, I was overfull and it was getting a bit salty for me. That's just me being a glutton though. The desserts were tasty with special shout-out to the whoopie pie, a giant, lusty sort of concoction. It was big enough to share. Yep, a whoopie pie that you can share with 3 of your closest friends. (Or eat by yourself, if you've got enough insulin lying around, Wilford Brimley.) Portions were huge and the prices (especially compared to what you'll find on Kiwah) are pretty reasonable. The ambiance was cozy, not necessarily fancy. That's all right though. We arrived with two kids in tow and they were welcomed. My only gripe was the lack of fountain Coke, but that's a common thing I complain about so ignore that. Four stars.

Really great cooking. Original and unique. Very small though they are opening second location in bohicket marina. Can't wait for that.

Excellent food, great intimate dining, and friendly staff. I was hopeful the experience would mirror all the great Yelp reviews. It exceeded. If you're going to or coming from Kiawah, a pitstop here is a must. Shrimp & grits and fried chicken sandwich were outstanding. Also very good were the shrimp po boy and crab cake stacker. Sweet tea was perfect. Mike (owner/chef) - keep doing what you're doing because its working. Gotta get Guy Fieri and DDD crew down there!

Went here last week and had a phenomenal time. The food was very good - I had the lobster roll, my boyfriend had the fried chicken sandwich. We both liked the laid back vibe and how friendly and helpful our waitress is - we came in without reservations and she had no problem fitting us in and making us feel completely at home. Will definitely be back!

Was very excited to try this place but after eating the breakfast I'm never going back. To start off they only offer two meats with breakfast and they were out of one of them. I had the breakfast sandwich with ham. They offered me ham because they were out of sausage. You could tell the eggs and meat were cooked in the same pot, making the food EXTREMELY greasy. I would compare it to a mcdonalds sandwich but worse. The orange juice was to die for but you can't rely on juice when the food is mediocre. Save yourself the money and go elsewhere.

Little place located near Kiawah Island, looks like a hole in the wall. Food was great and prices reasonable- shrimp tacos were scrumptious! The reason I rated this 3 stars was the service. There was one server so it took 30 minutes just to get our food ordered. Not sure if this was a fluke or usual service!

Go here! Go here! Go here! Drove to Kiawah from Charleston to check this place out. Got in Sunday 30 mins before closing. It's a small unexpected find in the country. The staff was DELIGHTFUL and could not have made us feel more welcome. I had the seafood frittata. ONE OF THE BEST ENTREES I'VE EVER HAD. The pot pie Larry ordered was as delicious as it was beautiful. I wanted to taste everything on the menu but we wanted to be considerate of their time. If you seek an environmental dining experience, it will fall short; but if you delight in the divinity of amazing cuisine, leave your pretense in the car and giddyap in for an incredible meal!! Can't wait to get back this spring.

We stopped here for breakfast this morning en route from Kiawah to Charleston and left feeling full and satisfied. Everything was excellent, although our party did not order much variety. Three of us had the Crave french toast, which today came with a blackberry/strawberry sauce. They also ordered sides of bacon. I had the duck hash, which was quite tasty with just enough gravy and perfectly done eggs. The service was very, very friendly and the atmosphere was pleasant. The Lokal placards around the restaurant were a nice reminder of their place in the community. One little nitpick. I ordered hot tea, and the method of serving could be a little more sophisticated. The water was not hot enough, so it took a long time to extract a little bit of flavor from the tea bag. I supposed I should have spoken up, and I'm sure I would have been given a replacement. A small dish for used wrappers from the beverages would have been welcome since there were no saucers. But all in all, it was a very good experience, and we would go back in a heartbeat.

This place is excellent all around! Our server promptly greeted us with ice water, then taking our drink orders. The mimosa's were pretty good, not overwhelmingly strong. I went with the shrimp and grits as this is one of my favorite meals. My cousin and mom shared the chicken and waffles and ended up eating some of my grits as well. The one minor thing with the grits is there is a lot of gravy, fine line of being too much and making it soup like. My grandmother got the French toast and said it was fabulous. We also ended up getting a key lime pie to go, SO yummy. Great place and well worth the drive we made from West Ashley.

We just enjoyed a fantastic take out meal from here! Everything was delicious, but we especially enjoyed the fried oyster salad and beet salad. The prices are very reasonable.

What a hidden gem! The restaurant looks like a shack but the food is out of this world. What a great final dinner before leaving our week at Kiawah. Fried green tomato crab appetizer was prepared beautifully. Sea bass over sautéed veggies was so flavorful and a perfect texture. Lynn, our waitstaff, was delightful and a blast to share our relaxing dinner with. We'll definitely return during our next visit to the island!

  • Holly G.

It was very warm inside. My potatoes weren't fully cooked. The onions and peppers were very oily. The coffee was bland. The French toast was way too sweet and mushy. A very bad breakfast!
